Ideas for Rotary Literacy
Month activities include:
• Launch a new literacy project during Rotary Literacy Month.
• Work with existing literacy providers to plan a project.
• Arrange for club members to volunteer at a tutoring center.
• Begin a student mentoring program.
• Encourage local businesses to offer education opportunities for employees.
• Start an adult education program at a local school or community center.
• Conduct a teacher training event for your district.
• Conduct a literacy awareness campaign in your community.
• Donate books for a community
DISTRICT GUIDELINES AND POLICIES
Rotary Year 2009 - 2010
I. CRITERIA FOR SELECTING ASSISTANT GOVERNORS/DISTRICT OFFICERS
- Membership, other than honorary, in good standing in a club in the district
- Should belong to a club of charter strength
- Has served as a club president, if possible
- Willingness and ability to accept the responsibilities of the position
- Demonstrated exemplanary performance at the district level
- Potential for future leadership in the district
II. REGULAR MEETINGS
a. District Officers
- A regular monthly meeting shall be held, and its time and place shall be fixed
- Sub-committees shall meet depending on their requirements or needs;
- Special meetings may be called upon as the need arises;
b. Club Presidents
- Pre-PETS training seminars shall be held in accordance with the pre-arranged schedule;
- During their term, a regular monthly meeting shall be held, and the time and place of such meetings shall be fixed;
- Special meetings may be called upon as the need arises.
III. CLUB INDUCTIONS
- Governor's Official Visit followed by Club induction shall be encouraged and be given priority schedule when two clubs request for the same date;
- Attendance of the governor shall be on a first come-first-serve basis in case of simultaneous club inductions in different locations;
- For joint club inductions, the governor should be the only guest speaker;
- Program for club induction should be conducted ahead of other activities;
- Governor's spouse, DS or COS, AG or AGR and Governor's Aide shall comprise the Governor's entourage;
- Club inductions coinciding with special affairs of clubs like charter anniversary shall be given preference in scheduling.
- The AG assigned should coordinate, supervise and monitor the program with the end in-view of making it efficient, informative and brief.
IV. GOVERNOR'S OFFICIAL VISIT
a. The official visit is subdivided into three parts. All members are required to attend the 2nd and 3rd parts
1st part: 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm (assisted by DS and AG) - one-on-one with club president = 30 minutes, the club secretary and PE joining = 30 minutes
2nd part: 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm - Club Assembly. Interactive discussions of plans & programs, projects implementation, issues and concerns, together with the AGR.
3rd part: 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm - Club Meeting or Club Induction.
For clubs meeting during lunchtime:
1st part: 10:00 am - 11:00 am [assisted by DS and AG] - one-on-one with club president = 30 minutes, the club secretary and PE joining = 30 minutes.
2nd part: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm - Club Assembly. Interactive discussions of plans & programs, projects implementation, issues and concerns together with AGR.
3rd part: 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm - Club Meeting or Club Induction.
b. Clubs should accord the district governor and his entourage with a reception befitting the highest officer of the district;
c. No other guest speaker shall be invited during the club meeting;
V. HOSTING DISTRICT AFFAIRS
- Clubs with sound financial capability may host or co-host district affairs;
- Host clubs shall commit its members to participate in the implementation of the affair;
- Program design, contents, speakers and program implementation shall be the responsibility of the district, while the host clubs shall be responsible in the campaign for attendance and all other logistical requirements;
- District officers directly involved in the affair may be exempted from the registration fees; - PDG's and their spouses may also be exempt from such fees;
- Financial & all related reports shall be required for submission to the governor within 30 days from date of affair;
- The District Chairman of the affair may not necessarily come from the host club;
- All speakers/dignitaries should be assigned an aide as a gesture of protocol and due courtesy;
- Co-hosting shall mean that said club will be actively involved from preparations to implementation of a particular activity or affair, not just financial contribution;
"NO ON SITE REGISTRATION" on all major RI and District mandated conferences, assemblies and seminars.
VI. DISTRICT AWARDS
- Selection of Awards Committee members shall be based on proven track record as a district officer, and a member in good standing of a functioning club;
- Criteria for the Awards shall be distributed to all clubs at the start of the Rotary year;
- Although working independently, the governor shall have the final say on matters concerning major district awards;
- The Chairman of the Awards Committee may not necessarily come from the host club;
The host club for the Awards Night shall include in its budget the cost of trophies/plaques to be given in coordination with the Awards Committee.
VII. CHARTERING NEW CLUBS
- New clubs may be formed in accordance with the needs of the community;
- A minimum membership of 30 shall be required of the new club;
- Comprehensive Rotary information shall be conducted with the assistance of the Rotary Academy committee members.
VIII. MULTI-CLUB MEETINGS
- Should be coordinated and supervised by the AG/s concerned;
- Frequency of MULTI-CLUB meetings should be in accordance with RI suggested guidelines;
- MULTI-CLUB meetings should be a political;
- It should be conducted in such a manner that would promote fellowship among Rotarians from different clubs;
- It should be organized properly and promoted by members of participating clubs well in advance.
IX. CLUB FUND RAISING PROJECTS
- Inter-club solicitation is generally not allowed.
X. LEAGUE OF PRESIDENTS
- Formation of a league shall be the sole discretion/initiative of the club presidents;
- The purpose of the league shall be for fellowship only. The governor may at any instance not recognize the league when its intended purpose is diverted to internal politics.
XI. GML PUBLICATION
- GML shall be issued each month;
- All clubs shall be provided with GML;
- The purpose and quality of GML in terms of contents and printing shall be given primary concern.
